Diversity at UPAVA celebration
Community leaders joined the celebrations
On October 12, the Ugandan community in Victoria – UPAVA celebrated unity and diversity at the annual Uganda Independence Dinner Gala. This vibrant event brought together community leaders, politicians, and people from all walks of life. Brimbank City Council and Carers Victoria contributed towards the event.
A distinguished group of guests graced the evening, including Presidents of various African community associations: Evalyn Kaaya of the Tanzanian Association, Patrick Tunga of the Rwandan Community, David Chisanga of the Zambian Association, Belthrand Habiyakare of the Burundi Association, and Kenyan community Chaplain Manoti Magati. Together with other leaders, they joined the celebration of Uganda’s independence and the spirit of togetherness that transcends borders.

The Victoria Multicultural Commission Silvia Renda was awed by the event
Abiola Akinbiyi, a member of the Ethnic Communities Council of Victoria, also attended the event and presented medals to the UPAVA Children’s Choir for their outstanding performance. “This is a wonderful celebration,” Akinbiyi remarked. “It’s heartening to see the younger generation growing up connected to their community. What a celebration it is—unifying and refreshing!”
Member of Parliament for North Eastern Metropolitan Region Richard Welch attended the event, and he was grateful

The event also saw notable figures such as Afropreneurs Summit convener Clyde S. Sharady and Bruce Wong, CEO of Footsolutions in attendance.

The gala was attended by more than 200 people representing over 20 different nationalities, making it a truly multicultural celebration. The event was a testament to the power of community, bringing people from diverse backgrounds together to honour Uganda’s community and the shared values of collaboration and inclusivity.
