Nambooze and Muleme Family share UPAVA Community Award

Two outstanding individuals were honoured as joint winners for the first time in the history of the Ugandan Pearl of Africa Victoria Association -UPAVA  Community Awards. Janipher Nambooze and the Muleme family—represented by Linda and Michael Muleme—shared the coveted annual UPAVA Community Award in recognition of their exceptional contributions to the Ugandan community in Victoria.

The decision to award both nominees stemmed from their equally impressive efforts in uplifting and supporting the community, which left the executive committee unable to choose between them. After two rounds of voting, the executive agreed that the award would be shared this year, marking a historic moment for the association.

Janipher Nambooze was recognised for her tireless voluntary work, particularly for promoting Ugandan culture and raising awareness of the association’s activities. She has been a dedicated volunteer at various festivals across Victoria, often setting up stalls to showcase Uganda’s beauty and promote the association’s mission.

Linda Muleme, nominated alongside her husband, Michael Muleme, was honoured for her lifelong dedication to working with children. She is the driving force behind the children’s choir and an integral part of the community, fostering talent and unity. Michael Muleme, the association secretary, has also been a steadfast supporter, working alongside his wife to strengthen the community.

Silvia Renda presented the joint award from the Victoria Multicultural Commission, which commended both winners for their selfless contributions and significant impact on the Ugandan community in Victoria.
